RCPCH Representative on the PICS Council
The Paediatric Intensive Care Society (PICS) is the main professional society representing the UK paediatric intensive care community at a national and international level. PICS recognises that Paediatric HDU is a developing discipline and is looking for an RCPCH representative with an interest in critical care from a DGH perspective to join the PICS Council as a co-opted member.
We recognise that the model of delivery of PDHUs varies significantly between centres and is usually quite distinct from that provided in centres with a PICU. Most units away from tertiary centres will deliver level 1 paediatric critical care and some others level 2 critical care.
The role of the RCPCH representative will be to represent all practitioners involved in the critical care pathway and liaise with PICS Council members to promote communication between our communities, and to collaborate in the development of appropriate systems to support all aspects of paediatric critical care going forward.
PICS Council meets four times each year, 3 in London and one at the location of the annual PICS Scientific Meeting. The appointee will be expected to attend PICS council meetings, and occasionally participate in teleconferences & email discussions between meetings.
The next meeting will be March 19th 2019 at the Association of Anaesthetists of Great Britain & Ireland. Travel expenses for this role will be covered by PICS.
